I am theatre maker, walking artist, writer and wannabe researcher based in the Peak District. In my performance work I am interested in investigating places, landscapes to unearth the human histories that reside there. My practice is rooted in the approaches of walking, writing and archaeology and examines human experience to reveal the complex relationship between who we are, who we have been and how we are remembered. Through out my work I continues to explore female histories, through intimate installations, one to one performances.

Recent work 'A Pilgrimage for Sylvia' is a trilogy of performances which follow my pursuit to discover the remaining traces of poet Sylvia Plath's presence. The trilogy comprises an intimate one to one performance, a lecture performance, and an archival installation, each capturing my pursuit of Sylvia and her absence presence within each place. A Pilgrimage for Sylvia is an ongoing research project which examines what it means to make a pilgrimage, exploring its qualities as both a spiritual and a physical act of making a journey.

Currently I am working my digital project #everydaypilgrimage a digital walking project documented on my instagram @emmieannalderson. It is part diary, part walking archive and an act of reconnecting with the landscape I inhabit. It is a project where I document my daily walks capturing the everyday, the unusual and beautiful in the landscape surrounds me . It is an ongoing exploration of place writing. An exploration of when a walk becomes a pilgrimage.
