an award-winning nature writer, poet and anthropologist(United Kingdom)
JC Niala is an award-winning nature writer, poet and anthropologist. Educated at Marlborough College, Wiltshire and the University of Oxford (Kellogg, St Antony's, St Catherine's) she is interested in how our imaginations of nature affect how we treat it.

Her podcast series 'The Root of the Matter' with Wellcome Collection explores what the plant world can teach us about being human. JC creates both on the page and in the landscape. During the growing season of 2021 she recreated an English urban allotment in the style of the year 1918 which became a living memorial to those who had lost their lives in the 1918/1919 & COVID-19 pandemics and The First World War. It was awarded the Social History Society's Public History Prize in 2022.

She is currently working on A Loveliness of Ladybirds a non-fiction book that explores English urban allotments and Kenyan colonial and natural history. It will be published by Little Toller in 2023.
