Nancy Laprade

I am the coordinator of Walking in Wonder (WiW) which was started by the Health and Well Being Ministry at Holy Cross Faith Memorial Episcopal Church in Pawleys Island, SC in late 2014. Walking in Wonder is intended to help us open ourselves to the beauty and depth of our surroundings… to hear, see and observe more intentionally and spiritually. WiW participants do short walks in beautiful places such as Brookgreen Gardens and Huntington State Park. We walk with intention and in silence — and then, at the end of our walks we meet in “community” to share our experience and reflections with our fellow walkers. This is not an endurance hiking program or a social walking club, but rather an opportunity to open ourselves to the wonder around us! We walk bi-weekly throughout the winter, spring and fall.

I edit a blog where walkers share photos, reflections, and poetry. We hope you will be inspired to open yourselves to the incredible wonder, beauty and mystery all around us!

flakkari

“Icelandic culture is infused with stories of travel. When names were needed for modern machines, the technology that enables our imaginations to travel, words were chosen that centred on the quality of roaming. Thus the neologism for laptop is fartölva, formed from the verb far, meaning to migrate, and tölva – migrating computer’; its companion, the external hard drive, is a flakkari. The latter word can also mean ‘wanderer’ or ‘vagrant’. In the end it’s the wanderers we rely on.” From Nancy Campbell’s “The Library of Ice”.
