Neil is a longtime American journalist, writer and rambler, based in Washington DC but with a foothold also in New York and on Cape Breton Island. His most recent book, American Ramble: A Walk of Memory and Renewal, centers on a walk he took from his home near the U.S. Capitol to New York City in the spring of 2021. It was published in 2023 by Mariner Press.
