Echoes

ECHOES specialises in audio AR and spatial audio experiences. Our open-access platform allows creators to independently make and publish incredible GPS-triggered walking experiences, and has 10,000+ members and 3000+ public audio walks. We also design bespoke apps which focus on sound and location, including Huang Ruo’s City of Floating Sounds, a walking orchestral performance premiering at Manchester International Festival in Summer 2024; Swim Pony’s TrailOff interactive audio dramas sponsored by Pennsylvania Environmental Council; The Royal Parks and The Royal Academy’s collaborative Music for Trees app; the Ellen Reid SOUNDWALK app in collaboration with the New York Philharmonic in Central Park, New York; the Zollverein UNESCO World Heritage site interactive audio experience; and many other creative projects featured on our website.

We are leaders in the field of immersive listening-walking experiences, using spatial audio (Audio AR), and tempo synchronisation, pushing the possibilities within the locative audio medium. Our community is our strength, producing the amazing content which makes our platform possible.

driftsinging

Drawing with (vocal) sound in response to place while passing through place. Driftsinging borrows from the Situationist Drift, and Baudelaire’s flâneur. Driftsinging also relates to the process of ‘sounding,’ the sonic measuring of distance and depth that locates position in place and ‘echo location’, the examination of place through sonic reflection and refraction, resonance and echo.
