Granton Wasteland Walk

Granton Wasteland, a walk with poetry – from Granton Harbour to Granton Square.

Wednesday 25 September 2024, 5-6.30pm.

Meeting at Harbour Connections, 13 Hesperus Crossway EH5 1FX W3W///expose.trails.navy

Join Harbour Connections and Tamsin Grainger, local artist and walk leader, for a visit to a small patch of local wasteland (earmarked for development) where there is a provocative artwork and the makings of a guerilla garden.

We will take a slow walk, plant some bulbs, and talk about the way green spaces nourish us.

The artist will show and share her banner, Tessa Berring (https://www.scottishpoetrylibrary.org.uk/poet/tessa-berring/) will read the poem which inspired the textile artwork, and Professor Catharine Ward Thompson (https://www.research.ed.ac.uk/en/persons/catharine-ward-thompson) will talk about her research into the health benefits of local, cared-for, green spaces.

This event will challenge you to notice the hidden and destitute corners we walk past every day and see what grows there. Together we will dream about how we might look after and enjoy this place in the future.

This event is free to attend.

marl

To stroll, meander, as in “I thought I’d marl along to see you.” And “He’s always marreling down the road somewhere.” from the Dictionary of Newfoundland English (University of Toronto Press, 1982).
