In 1994 he completed a degree in Communication Design (Graphic Art) at the School of Fine Arts at the University of Porto, In 2007, the master'sdegree in Theory and Practices of Drawing, organized by FBAUP, with the dissertation entitled “Mover pelo Desenho” [Moving through drawing] with the guidance of Professor Sculptor Joana Filipa Nieto Guimarães Pimentel.
In 2016 he completed a PhD in Fine Arts - Drawing, from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon
(FBAUL) with Professors Luísa D’Orey Capucho Arruda (FBA/UL) and Paulo Oliveira Freire de Almeida (EAAD/UM)
as supervisors.
He has been a professor at EAAD/UM since the 2002-03, performing the functions of Assistant Professor. He worked as a teacher in the Architecture course, later on as an Integrated Master in Architecture, teaching the Laboratory of Drawing, Drawing, Contemporary Art Movements and DAC.
He participated in the foundation and exercised teaching activity in the Fashion Design and Marketing course,
since 2005, in the curricular units of Drawing, Figure Drawing, Design Culture and Society, Aesthetics and
Color and Interdisciplinary Design.
He participated in the foundation and exercised teaching activity in the Product Design course, since 2012,
teaching History of Product Design, Drawing, Design project - Use and Identity, Design project- Concept and
Form and, as a tutor, in Design and Industry.
He participated in the foundation and exercised teaching activity in the Master's course in Product and Service
Design, since 2017, teaching the CU of Seminar I.
He participated in the foundation and exercised teaching activity in the PhD course in Fashion Design, since
2014, teaching Phenomenology of Fashion.
Recently, he participated in the foundation and exercised teaching activity in the Visual Arts course, since
2020, teaching Drawing II.
Between 2016 and 2017 he was a member of the School Scientific Council and since 2018 he is a member of the
Pedagogical Council.
In 2009 he received the Teaching Merit Award from the Quality Office of the University of Minho
He is an integrated member of the R&D unit Lab2PT - Laboratory of Landscapes, Heritage and Territory, group
DeTech - Design & Technology, since 2016. In this unit he served as assistant coordinator of the group (DeTech),
between 2016 and 2018, being then a member of the Scientific Council of Lab2PT.
He is a founding member of Estúdio UM, a space that has maintained a continuous exhibition practice since
2008 for drawing dissemination.
Since November 2015 he has been director of the Nogueira da Silva Museum, Cultural Unit of the University of
Minho and Member of the Cultural Council of Minho.
