Sophie Austin
As a multidisciplinary storyteller, I am committed to creating work that drives meaningful change. My practice spans award-winning films, acclaimed audio projects, and innovative theatre, with a consistent focus on amplifying marginalised voices and addressing critical issues of environmental and social justice.
I founded Teatro Vivo and spent 15 years redefining the possibilities of site-specific theatre before expanding my work internationally. In my current role as Creative Director of CHANGE Festival, I lead initiatives that encourage artists and audiences to envision and contribute to a regenerative future.
My films have received international recognition, been broadcast on Channel 4, and featured at climate summits, schools, and community venues. My audio works—Lore of the Wild co-written with Bernadette Russell and F for Farnham—have both been shortlisted for the Sound Walk September Prize for two consecutive years.
In addition to my creative projects, I mentor writers working in fiction, documentary, and drama, supporting them to develop and share stories that matter.
Walking has always been an essential part of my creative practice and feel deeply in my stride within the WLC community.
