Will you be sending cards this Christmas?
In the UK red post boxes are commonplace in towns and in the countryside, and can often be found on roadside verges, or embedded in a stone walls, and you may also find many in its former colonies. In the next three weeks, they will become popular destinations for many of us, as we walk (or run) to catch the post. Clearly, they are no longer as popular as they were, as more and more people forego the task of purchasing cards for the holiday season, let alone handwriting messages to family and friends.
If you happen to be in London's Oxford Street, the post boxes along the street will apparently be singing festive songs - you will have to post a letter to trigger the song however!

For our next Café on Tuesday, our guest is Claudia Zeiske, who posted a post card every day on her Slow Coast 500 walk earlier this year. She stepped out on what turned out to be a 700 mile walk along the North Sea coast of Scotland, from Dunnet Head to Berwick-upon-Tweed - join us to find out why she made the trek and what she encountered along the way. I am fascinated to know how easy it was to find a post box in rural Scotland...did she have to stage the photograph in our featured image above?
We will soon be learning, which walking pieces have made the shortlist for the inaugural Marŝarto Award, but we are hoping you are enjoying listening to the Sound Walk September shortlisted pieces. The creators of which are invited to post a blog piece in which they tell us more about the making of their sound walk, two of the most recent posts include Ed Coulson's research into surviving the Great Famine through lacemaking, and Sophie Austin's F for Farnham in which she spooks us with some ghostly residents of this ancient town in Surrey.
