Chepstow Walking Festival

Chepstow is, and has been accredited as a Walkers are Welcome town since 2012 and the annual walking festival organised by Chepstow Walkers are Welcome is a celebration of this. It would be fair to say the area is a gateway to walking in Wales and the Lower Wye Valley and Forest of Dean. The festival offers the visitor an extensive programme of guided walks, discovering the hidden and not so hidden gems that the area has to offer. The walks will suit most abilities and this year there are a couple of challenging walks for the very fit as well as those that prefer a stroll with a theme. The main objective of the festival is to have fun, enjoy the great outdoors with like-minded people and discover the beautiful diverse landscape and history of this stunning area. Under 16’s free, as is the Walk for Health and Welsh Speaking Walk. The programme will be ‘live’ in Mid February. Booking is essential as places limited to offer the best experience.

stroam

Do you like to stroll? Are you a fan of roaming? Then you should give stroaming a try. This is a word blend, just like brunch. In her 1796 novel Camilla, Frances Burney described a character who “stroamed into the ball-room, with the most visible marks of his unfitness for appearing in it.” The OED indicates that stroaming involves “long strides” and/or idleness, so watch your form and attitude when out on a stroam. Credits to Mark Peters.
