It’s only a few more weeks until Sound Walk September 2022. Have you taken a look at the current list of submissions? Are you looking forward to one of the scheduled events?

It’s not too late to submit your own work, and be eligible for the Sound Walk September Awards.

Meanwhile, as in previous years, here at walk · listen · create, we’re organising a larger overarching collaborative event to celebrate Sound Walk September.

This year, in collaboration with Dérive app, we are hosting 30 Days of Prompts.
During the month of September, every 12 hours, participants will receive a prompt which will nudge them to explore the public space around them. You can take part via the mobile app Dérive app, or by following @30DaysOfPrompts on Twitter.

Keen to join up? Read up on the details, and sign up.

September will see a total of 60 prompts, for which you will have ample time to explore the space around you, or your city in general. Participate in as many, or as few, tasks as you like. Document your experiences, either directly inside Dérive app, or by posting to your favourite social media.
If the latter, try to tag your content with #SWS22 and #30DoP.

We will see you in the streets, we will see you online!

plodge

The Scottish and English word plodging has been wading through the lexical muck and mire since the late 1700s, and it refers to icky, slow, molasses-type walking. Plodge is probably a variation of plod. This word isn’t totally out of use, as a 1995 use from British magazine The Countryman illustrates: “Northbound Pennine Wayfarers, plodging through the interminable peat-bogs of the North Pennines.” Even if you have a spring in your step, it’s tough to skip merrily through the peat-bogs. Credits to Mark Peters.
