Foivos Sofikitis

Art - Space - Community
(Greece)

He was born in Kalamata in 1977 and lives in Athens. He studied Interior Architecture at the Technological Educational Institute of Athens and Painting at the Athens School of Fine Arts, where he attended the optional workshops of Printmaking and Scenography. He completed the Postgraduate Program in Applied Clinical Sociology and Art of the Departments of Sociology (Aegean University), Visual and Applied Arts (University of West Macedonia). He has worked as a set designer and for the last sixteen years as a visual art teacher in public education. He is active in issues that connect art with education, contemporary technologies, community and public space, participating in respective groups and collectives.

His work in all fields addresses issues of time and air, as obsessive repetition and breathing, through processes of gesture. His work is dominated by silence, through the condensation of the time of engagement with the material and the constant resetting of existential representations.
