Julian Rickert

Julian is a member of 'one step at a time like this' a group of artists who create participatory, locative and site responsive works. Based in Melbourne, Australia.

We create place-responsive and conversation-based works, focusing on the activity of the audience as an essential element in the work. Employing an expanded notion of theatre, one step works tend to be journey-based, mobile and immersive, with a strong focus on audience centrality. Works blend the everyday with a range of digital media and live interventions, allowing audiences to slip seamlessly between real-world locales and fictional/virtual worlds.

The aim is to create invitations, resonances and pathways toward a more engaged and particularized experience of both live theatre and living in the world.

stroam

Do you like to stroll? Are you a fan of roaming? Then you should give stroaming a try. This is a word blend, just like brunch. In her 1796 novel Camilla, Frances Burney described a character who “stroamed into the ball-room, with the most visible marks of his unfitness for appearing in it.” The OED indicates that stroaming involves “long strides” and/or idleness, so watch your form and attitude when out on a stroam. Credits to Mark Peters.
