Doubling our prize money

31 Mar, 2024

We broke our first crowdfunding goal, thanks to you, and are able to double the prize money for our Sound Walk September and Marŝarto Awards. First prize is now 500 euros, with the honourable mention receiving 200 euros in cold, hard, cash. Double from what our prizes were in 2023. Neat, eh?

Thank you for your support, and, for us to be able to keep offering this pot of money to you, walking artists, we need your ongoing support. Now, let's try to push past our next goal, which will see us doubling the prize money once more.

Have you submitted your new work this year? Do so now, realising that all work produced after January 1, 2023 is eligible. And, spread the love by telling your friends.

Unrelated, I'm going to perform jury duties for the World Summit Awards WSA, for which the congress this year is happening on the edge of Patagonia, in Chile.
The WSA highlights technology that works towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (previously called the Millennium Development Goals). My niche is the Culture & Heritage category, in which 5 projects from as many countries (out of an initial field of a few score) compete for the title of champion.

I really enjoy Chile. My first time visiting was about 10 years ago, and my most recent visit, this time with my wife, was around the 2022/23 new year, when we visited the Deep South of Patagonia, which is truly stunning. That most recent visit included a long walk to the incredible Torres del Paine, jagged peaks on the edge of a glacial lake.

On this visit, I'm taking the opportunity to expand on a recent project I'm working on, and I'll be visiting Santiago, Valparaiso, Rancagua, Puerto Varas, and Puerto Montt. If you happen to be in Chile, and feel like hanging out, or going for a walk, give me a shout.

Keep walking.

desire path

A term mostly used by town planners or architects to describe the short-cut paths created by people. So a path around a square ‘green’ will often have a desire path cutting off the corners. Town planners recognise them as an admission that the initial path was put in the wrong place. Called ‘Elephant Paths’ in some countries.
