A series of sound journeys through the Ancares Lucenses.
A group of theater, documentary film, poetry, and music artists produced six soundwalks in some of the most magical spaces of the Ancares Mountains of Lugo.
Six chapters, each written by a different author, blending documentary and fiction to delve deeper into the knowledge of this Biosphere Reserve, its culture, and the feelings of its inhabitants.
Project director, and author, Marcos PTT:
When I arrived in Torés, that village framed in a beautiful valley which, like good movies and books, gets better the more you look at it, I had the clear and immediate sensation that its tranquility concealed stories worth bringing to light. And there were tremors, which from time to time and for a long time now, disrupt Torés’ calm. They might return, in the form of a wind farm, definitively disrupting their way of life.
But above all, people appeared eager to speak, who opened their homes, mouths, and even pantries to generously offer me the gift of their memories and feelings.
Project director, and author, Iria Azevedo:
The sound journey of Navia traces its path through different spaces of the town. Places that hold the footprints of the people who inhabit them with their walks, their experiences, and memories. Step by step, they marked the trajectory that tells their story: If we don’t have memory, we don’t have history, and we are made of stories.
Project director, and author, Jose Díaz:
Like in the haunted mansion of a horror novel, in Castro de Santa María, ancient forces converge that bring us into contact with the unknown and with death.
The remnants of a Celtic settlement, a 9th-century necropolis, a 15th-century church, a contemporary cemetery, and you.
Millennia of secrets hidden beneath the earth, dust, or the paint on a wall, awaiting the day they come to light. Perhaps that day is today.
Author Clara Gayo:
For a city dweller like me, any opportunity to get away and take a break from the daily grind of city life is worth taking. When I was a child, I was very envious of my classmates who went “to the village” every weekend. I didn’t have one. When I visited Penarrubia, this memory came to mind and I thought that, indeed, my dream village could look a lot like this place. As the guide of this walk, you will have an enlightened narrator who will unravel the history of this parish and its people, as far back as memory allows. Penarrubia, perhaps, is not easy to find and get to know… But once found, it is unforgettable.
Author Avelina Pérez:
The Grobos don’t need words; they don’t require them. Perhaps it’s us who seek text to integrate ourselves, to find a place, establish a pact of coexistence, and play with what alters and amazes us. To tame, in some way, the mirror of our smallness. Here, meanings frame our insignificance. The proposal of this journey is a game in search of an alliance in which we question our power. The Grobos have been and will be; you and I are merely passing through.
Author María Lado:
This sonic journey is a path into the mountains to the Pozo do Lago Maior, a glacial lake that formed thousands of years ago. We could say it is, therefore, a journey through time. But it is also a walk inward, a journey during which you can merge with the nature that surrounds you, the visible and the unseen observer, the one that watches from the horizon and the one you carry inside, hidden like an animal.
