Just Because.
Today is international “Just because” day. A day to do things without any reason.
Founded by Joseph J. Goodwin in the late 1950s, the Just Because Day started as a way to encourage people to spend time together, rest from work and enjoy leisure time.
A day meant to celebrate taking time off and doing whatever you want or feel like in the moment. Just Because!
And what is a better “just because” activity then walking, be it a stroll, a derive, a walk to escape the routine of everyday, a hike in nature, a trip by foot to a place where you didn’t go before, or just taking out your family or friends for a walk around the block. You may see it as you didn't see it before.
Joseph Goodwing celebrated the first “Just Because” Day at the beginning of the 1950ies by gifting to his wife a new transistor radio, just because. From that day on, it became an annual tradition in the family. Eventually, word of mouth spread and the Just Because day went world wide.
Word of mouth is also how the Sound Walk September, coming up this week, goes global, and we count on you.
It is still not too late to submit your sound walks for the Sound Walk September Awards and your other than sound walks for the Marsarto Awards.
Check out the work of previous winners on September 5th at the SWS Winners’ Circle.
Sound Walk September is about you, our community, calling out to celebrate sound walking in your neighborhood, in your village or city, during the whole month of September, because sound walking and walking is to appreciate the little things and enjoy every single second of life. Just because, and as much as today with “Just Because” Day, Sound Walk September is the perfect reminder of that fact.
