Walking piece

This project was addressing important themes of migration and home-finding via intimate use of walking as an empowering and explorative practice and space for an encounter and sharing.

Have you moved to Leeds from another country? Do certain places in Leeds remind you your hometown? Do you have your favourite walks in Leeds that make you feel at home in the city?

Artist Alisa Oleva invites you to go together on a one-to-one walk, exploring the idea of home and belonging. We will walk, talk, share and collect some traces. There will be some treats at the end.

I have hosted 12 intimate one-to-one walks with people from various paths and cultures who moved to Leeds from Italy, Pakistan, Ukraine, Kurdistan, Slovenia, Chile and other places. Each could choose any starting point – a place that makes them feel at home in Leeds. I also invited participants to take two photos with instax camera on the walk: one to keep and one to take with them.

I am currently working on set of postcards as a documentation.

This residency was supported by Compass Festival in Leeds.

GPS drawing

Drawing practices using GPS devices. Previously a planned route is studied. Although the drawing is done in the physical space, the creation must be seen through the applications that show those records. Also called GPS Art.
