We've come to the conclusion of the second instalment of the Marŝarto Awards, complementing our existing Sound Walk September Awards. Where the SWS Awards focus on sound walks, the Marŝarto Awards recognise walking art, excluding sound walks, produced in the previous year.

Liesje van den Berk draws not only what she sees but also what she hears or feels, drawing how the senses absorb the environment. And this is what she did for her piece Walk in Fleinvaer, documenting her experience on the island with the same name in Norway.

Louisa Chase's Libations involved making a contract with the land and multi-species inhabitants to pour water as an offering every day for 30-days.

At the international Art del Caminar Encounter in Girona and Banyoles Marie-Anne Lerjen produced Sweat Mapping, where she used the sweat of participants to produce a map of the journey.

In Fieldwalking – Groundlines, Ruth Broadbent created 72 drawings inspired by walking the landscape where a collection of flints were discovered.

Using ancient maps from the National Library of Scotland and drawing new ones, Tamsin Grainger walked around the edge of Edinburgh in Walking Like a Tortoise. The result was more walks, creative responses and art-making, much questioning, conversation & radical hospitality.

With FROM DUST TO STARDUST, Ienke Kastelein, Beatrice Khoumeri, and Peter Schreuder created a a sensorial walk in deep time, at this year's Walking Art and Relational Geographies Conference in Catalunya.

Stories of Place, Community and Environment (SPACE) Walk, facilitated by Kim V. Goldsmith, is an act of walking together with different knowledge holders and community change-makers to creatively explore the local landscape and consider future possibilities for farming, the environment, the community, and the wider region.

Our amazing Online Jury, drawn from our community of over 1900 contributing walking artists, committed considerable time to reviewing each of this year’s submissions for the Marŝarto Awards. And, we have a shortlist!
