Open call for WAC - Walking Arts Encounters/Conference Prespa (Greece), 3-10 July 2023. In the third walking arts encounter in Prespa we explore the various dimensions of “Walking Visions” with an encounter for sharing of artistic walks and walkshops, along with a conference about the topic. We invite artists, writers and other creative practitioners, critics and researchers to Prespa this summer and to take up the provocation of the encounters/conference theme.

Walking Arts & Local Communities (WALC) is an artistic cooperation project, co-funded by the European Union, establishing an International Center for Artistic Research and Practice of Walking Arts, backed up by an online counterpart in the format of a digital platform for walking arts. The project leans strongly on involving local inhabitants, and on engaging with local activists.

We invite you to explore Prespa, a national park and lake at the border of Greece, Albania and North Macedonia, and a venue of art practice for almost two decades. Art and science, biology and ecology meet in an evening with two panels about Prespa, water and arts, in a dialogue with artists, researchers, scientists and ecologists, a confluence of the Prespa lake with Oika in the US, the El Hondo Wetland in Spain, the wet meadows of Somerset Levels and the waters of Yarun (Bribie Island) in Australia.

The SWS Awards 2023 saw 60 entries reviewed by a dedicated online jury. The shortlist includes three pieces from Australian artists and one previous winner. Following deliberations by the SWS Grand Jury, winners will be announced in January 2024, marking the first time cash prizes will be awarded.
